The Atlanta Apollos were a professional soccer franchise out of Atlanta, Georgia, which competed in the North American Soccer League (NASL) during the 1973 season. The team was part of the NASL’s infancy, where there were many efforts to establish and expand professional soccer in the United States. The hopes of constructing a strong fan base in a growing sports market such as the Southeast did not materialize according to plan due to the Apollos struggles both on and off the field. Their tenure was brief, and they faced challenges such as low attendance and limited financial support, which ultimately led to the folding after being one and done and dusted.

During their brief existence, the Atlanta Apollos played their home games at Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium. The team featured a mix of domestic and international players, which was in line with the NASL’s marketing strategy of attracting global talent to raise the profile of soccer in America. Although the Apollos failed to achieve any semblance of success, their existence was integral for laying the groundwork for the future of professional soccer in Atlanta. This city would later become a vibrant soccer town with the arrival of Atlanta FC United.
