Houston E-Z Riders Merch | WTT Tennis Team
The Houston E-Z Riders were a pioneering charter franchise of the original World Team Tennis (WTT) league, making a memorable splash during the inaugural 1974 season. Playing their home matches at the Sam Houston Coliseum, the team embraced the league’s revolutionary co-ed team format and introduced tennis to an energetic, rowdy Texas crowd. Coached by Australian tennis great Fred Stolle, the roster featured a formidable blend of international talent, including Australian star John Newcombe, American standout Dick Stockton, and top women's players like Helen Gourlay. Dressed in their distinctive western-inspired theme, the E-Z Riders proved to be highly competitive on the court, finishing near the top of their division. Despite their strong play and a dedicated local following, franchise instability and the league's early financial challenges led to a quick transition; following their single iconic season in Texas, the team was relocated and rebranded as the Baltimore Banners.
