New Orleans Sunbelt Nets Merch | WTT Tennis Team

The New Orleans Sunbelt Nets were a nomadic franchise in the final seasons of the original World Team Tennis (WTT) league, epitomizing the shifting landscape of 1970s professional tennis. The franchise originally began as the Houston E-Z Riders in 1974 before moving to Baltimore and then to Boston. Prior to the 1978 season, the team was relocated once again, this time to Louisiana, where they were briefly branded as the New Orleans Sunbelt Nets. Playing their home matches at the Louisiana Superdome, the team brought high-energy, co-ed tennis to the Big Easy. The roster featured standout players like Marty Riessen and Wendy Turnbull, who fought hard in a highly competitive league. However, the franchise's stay in New Orleans was short-lived; mid-season financial struggles and scheduling conflicts forced the team to play several of their home matches in other cities across the Sun Belt, including Miami.
