Denver Racquets Merch | WTT Tennis Team
The Denver Racquets were a defining, one-year wonder franchise of the original World Team Tennis (WTT) league, making an unforgettable impact during the inaugural 1974 season. Playing their home matches at the Denver Auditorium Arena, the team donned navy blue and yellow as they brought a rowdy, stadium-spectacle vibe to Colorado. Under the guidance of player-coach Tony Roche and featuring a talented roster that included South African star Andrew Pattison and French icon Françoise Dürr, the Racquets overcame a slow start to dominate the rest of the season. They ultimately pulled off a legendary postseason run, shocking Billie Jean King's powerhouse Philadelphia Freedoms to claim the league's very first WTT championship title, with Pattison earning playoff MVP honors. Subsequently, ownership shifted its focus and sold the franchise to a group that relocated the team to become the Phoenix Racquets the following year.
