The Detroit Loves were a charter franchise of the original World Team Tennis (WTT) league, hitting the courts for their inaugural season in 1974 at the Cobo Arena. The team brought world-class tennis to the Motor City, featuring an impressive roster that boasted legendary tennis icons like Rosie Casals, Phil Dent, and Allan Stone. Known for their high-energy play and the league's signature colorful, fan-interactive format, the Loves quickly established a passionate local following. Despite generating initial excitement and showcasing some of the era's finest talent, franchise instability and the financial headwinds plaguing the early league caught up with the team, leading to their departure from Detroit after just one memorable season when they relocated to become the Indiana Loves.
