The Phoenix Sunsets were a brief but vibrant part of the original World Team Tennis (WTT) landscape, competing during the league's initial 1970s boom. Sharing the Arizona market's passion for the league's innovative, fast-paced format, the team brought high-energy, co-ed professional tennis to local fans. While they operated in the shadow of their more star-studded desert counterparts, the Racquets, the Sunsets embodied the true spirit of WTT by showcasing equal-footing mixed doubles and a fan-friendly, raucous atmosphere. Unfortunately, franchise instability and the ultimate folding of the original league after the 1978 season cut their journey short.
