Promoted by skating legend Frank Macedo—who tabbed the team to be led by veteran talent including Francine Cochu—the franchise was heavily anticipated during a period when the sport enjoyed national television syndication across dozens of Canadian stations. However, despite generating great enthusiasm and concept illustrations among fans, the Northern Knights never officially hit the track for a regular-season game, as the IRSL ceased operations following its 1987 season, leaving the team as a fascinating "what-if" chapter of mid-80s roller derby history.
