Hawaii Leis Merch | WTT Tennis Team

The Hawaii Leis were a colorful charter franchise of the original World Team Tennis (WTT) league, bringing professional, mixed-gender tennis to the islands from 1974 to 1976. Under the guidance of Hall of Fame player-coach Dennis Ralston, the team competed on vibrant courts in front of energetic crowds who embraced the league's raucous, fan-interactive style. To combat early struggles and generate star power, the franchise made major waves by signing prominent international legends, including multi-Slam champion Margaret Court, Australian icon John Newcombe, and the famously entertaining Romanian superstar Ilie Năstase. Despite these high-profile roster additions, the Leis struggled to find consistent success on the court and frequently finished at the bottom of the standings. After three hard-fought seasons, ownership and financial hurdles prompted the franchise to relocate to the Pacific Northwest to become the Sea-Port Cascades.
