The San Jose Earthquakes were members of the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1974-1984. The Quakes, were originally scheduled to play in San Francisco, but did not draw enough fan interest, and decided to settle on San Jose. This switch proved to be financially beneficial, as the Earthquakes team led the NASL in attendance in its first season. The team continued to draw well, although consistent success on the filed was often elusive.
