The San Diego Jaws were part of the North American Soccer League (NASL) for only the 1976 season. New ownership had purchased the bankrupt Baltimore Comets (founded in 1973) and moved them west to San Diego. The Jaws were the league's second San Diego franchise, with the Toros going under in 1968 after two uneventful seasons.

After finishing with a losing record, failing to make the playoffs and suffering with poor attendance, the Jaws moved to Las Vegas for the 1977 NASL season where they rebranded as the Quicksilvers and only lasted for one season. The San Diego Jaws team colors are black, blue, yellow and white.
