The Memphis Sounds were an American Basketball Association (ABA) team which in 1974 rebranded from the Memphis Pros version, hosting their home games at the Mid-South Coliseum. The Sounds played in just the 1974-75 season after which low attendance, financial difficulties and ownership instability resulted in the franchise folding. The team's legacy consisted of keeping the city interested in professional basketball until the NBA Memphis Grizzlies came to town decades later via Vancouver.
