The Baltimore Hustlers were part of a brief and ill-fated chapter in the history of the American Basketball Association (ABA). In 1975, a group of Maryland businessmen purchased the financially struggling Memphis Sounds franchise and relocated it to Baltimore. Initially named the Hustlers, the team faced immediate backlash from both the league and the public due to the negative connotations associated with the name. Consequently, the franchise was renamed the Baltimore Claws before even playing a regular-season game. Despite these efforts, the Baltimore Claws folded in October 1975 before the start of the 1975–76 ABA season, playing only three exhibition games.
