The California Sunshine were a professional soccer team established in Fountain Valley, California, and participating in the American Soccer League (ASL) from 1977 to 1981. The club's owners Warren Hoffnung and Lee Andrews established the family friendly franchise to showcase American soceer talent. The Sunshine home games were played at venues such as Orange Coast Community College in Costa Mesa and El Camino Community College in Torrance. The team was coached by Derek Lawther during its early years, with Bob Ridley taking over in 1979.
