Washington Metros short-lived existence consisted of playing in just ten games of the 1979-80 season, making the franchise a fleeting presence in the Women’s Professional Basketball League (WBL). Based in Washington, D.C., the Metros competed in the Eastern Division and played home games at the Starplex Armory. Coached by Nat Frazier, the team struggled with financial instability, lacking firm ownership and folded before the season’s midpoint. As such, the Metros became the quintessential example of the overwhelming, and eventually, insurmountable financial challenges the league was up against.
