The Washington Metros, whose existence consisted of playing just 10 games in the 1979-80 season, were a fleeting presence in the Women’s Professional Basketball League (WBL), the first pro women’s basketball league in the U.S. Based in Washington, D.C., the Metros competed in the Eastern Division and played home games at the Starplex Armory. Coached by Nat Frazier, the team struggled with financial instability, lacking firm ownership, and folded before the season’s midpoint, reflecting the broader challenges faced by the WBL.
