New Orleans Pride was a pro team in the Women's Professional Basketball League (WBL) from 1979 to 1981, playing their home games at both the Louisiana Superdome and UNO Field House. The cavernous Superdome was host to the Pride's home opener on November 15, 1979, which drew a crowd of 8,452. Despite the initial surge of excitement, the Pride became fiscally stressed and closed their doors after the 1980–81 season, which also marked the disbanding of the WBL.
