The Milwaukee Does were a trailblazing team in the Women's Professional Basketball League (WBL), the first pro basketball league for women in the United States which operated from 1978 to 1981. Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Does played a pivotal role in the early history of women's professional basketball, notably hosting the league's inaugural game on December 9, 1978, against the Chicago Hustle at the MECCA Arena (now UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena). Despite their short existence and lack of competitive success, the Does, named as a nod to the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks, contributed significantly to the foundation for future women's basketball leagues such as the WNBA.
