The Iowa Cornets were a trailblazing team in the WBL, the first professional women's basketball league in the U.S., operating from 1978 to 1980. As the league's inaugural franchise, they played home games in cities such as Des Moines and Cedar Rapids to engage fans statewide. Owned by George Nissen, they were known for their competitive spirit, reaching two championship series, and for their unique "Corn Dog" bus, which symbolized their statewide presence.
