The Dallas Diamonds were a pioneering women's professional basketball team which competed in the Women's Professional Basketball League (WBL) from 1979 to 1981. Founded by McDonald's franchisee Judson Phillips, the team debuted in the WBL's second season, playing home games at the Dallas Convention Center. Despite early financial struggles, the franchise gained prominence with the acquisition of Nancy Lieberman, a standout player from Old Dominion University and Olympian. With Coach Greg Williams at the helm, the Diamonds achieved a remarkable turnaround, finishing the 1980–81 season with a 27–9 record. Dallas did make it to the WBL Finals, where they were edged out in 5 games by the champion Nebraska Wranglers. Although short-lived the franchise was instrumental in paving the way for women’s pro basketball in the United States.
