The Chicago Hustle were an original team in the pioneering Women's Professional Basketball League (WBL). Established in 1978, the Hustle were to become an admired league franchise, hosting home games at DePaul University's Alumni Hall. Known for a quick paced aggressive style of play, the team tied for the division title in their inaugural season. From the administrative end, the Hustle topped the league’s attendance figures. Their free Dr. Pepper soda marketing strategie and television broadcasts on WGN worked towards gaining community support. However, the early new found success would not last, as the WBL dissolved in 1981. The Hustle’s legacy is defined by players such as first WBL MVP Rita Easterling and Liz Galloway-McQuitter, a future advocate and coach for the women’s game. Along with many others, it was their dedication and trailblazing efforts which helped build the foundation for women’s pro basketball in the United States.
