The Washington Caps brief participation in the American Basketball Association (ABA) consisted of just the 1969-70 season featuring their star player and future Hall of Famer F Rick Barry. The team played their home games at the Washington Coliseum and other neutral locations such as Wichita, Kansas and Mexico City. The Caps were the second act of the team which initiated play in the ABA as the Oakland Oaks in 1967. Their existence was marred by turmoil, as they embarked on a bumpy ride from California to Washington, D.C. and finally to Virginia. Eventually, the financial instability, geographic challenges and perpetual internal conflict became insurmountable for the franchise.
