The Memphis Sounds were an American Basketball Association (ABA) team which in 1974 rebranded from the Memphis Pros version. The Sounds were silenced after the 1974-75 season when low attendance at the Mid-South Coliseum, along with financial difficulties and ownership instability resulted in the franchise folding. Despite their on and off court troubles, the team's legacy consisted of maintaining the city's interest in professional basketball until the NBA Memphis Grizzlies arrived in town from Vancouver decades later.
