The Kentucky Colonels were one of the more successful franchises in the American Basketball Association (ABA) from 1967-76. The outfit was known for their gritty competitiveness, with their talented roster always putting on a show for their enthusiastic fans. The Colonels won the 1974-75 ABA Championship, propelled by Hall of Fame players C Artis Gilmore, F Dan Issel and G Louie Dampier. Despite their success on the court, the franchise was excluded from the 1976 ABA-NBA merger. This decision led to the team shutting down its operation, no doubt leaving fans with a sense of what could have been.
